Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Researchers from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Lanzhou University actively carried out scientific research around the needs of the epidemic and key breakthrough directions, and played a supporting role in the prevention and control of the epidemic.
The team of Academician Hou Li'an and Professor Wang Bo pointed out that how to strengthen indoor air pollution and transmission interruption is a problem that needs to be solved urgently based on the characteristics of aerosol transmission of new coronavirus in epidemic areas. In this regard, the team actively carried out technical research on air purification and virus elimination in epidemic areas, integrated innovative technologies, developed "Cloud Air Sterile Purifier", and put it into practical use, which made an important contribution to the prevention and control of the frontline epidemic.
At the same time, based on the research results of COVID-19 prevention and control, the team formed a research report and participated in the preparation of the "Guidelines on the Office, Residential and Medical Environment Epidemic Prevention Design and Environmental Protection Operation during the Epidemic Period" issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China. It provides a powerful guiding role for the indoor air environment epidemic prevention design of public buildings and indoor air safety during the epidemic situation.

"Cloud Air Sterile Purifier" is dominated by the "Cloud Air Purifying Technology" and supplemented by chlorine dioxide disinfection and ultraviolet disinfection technology. It has the advantages of no need of filter material and high purification accuracy, which can remove fine particles such as dust, PM1, PM2.5, and droplets in the air.
After obtaining the above research results, the team immediately took the initiative to contact the People's Hospital of Yunyang District, Shiyan City, Hubei Province to provide technical services, and donated the equipment of "Cloud Air Sterile Purifier" through the Wuhan Youth Development Foundation.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, the Academician Hou Li'an and the team of Professor Wang Bo adhered to the concept of "Defeat COVID-19 with technology", and became a member of the "heroes in harm's way" in this fight. The action has made due contributions to winning this epidemic prevention and control battle.
