At the invitation of Prof. Gou Xiaohua and Prof. Yang Xiaoyan from the College of Earth and Environmental Sciences of Lanzhou University and the Key Laboratory of Western China's Ministry of Environment and Education, Researcher Fu Qiaomei from the Institute of Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences came to our university on 20 February for an academic exchange. Professor Fu Qiaomei gave a lecture on "Bone Tracing, Counting the Past and Knowing the Future - Ancient DNA Explores Human Evolution in East Asia", which was hosted by Professor Yang Xiaoyan.More than 50 teachers and students attended the presentation.

The lecture was hosted by Professor Yang Xiaoyan and attended by more than 50 students and teachers from the School of Resources and Environment and the Key Laboratory of the Western Ministry of Education. She explained the dilemmas faced by ancient DNA research and the main scientific issues of interest in ancient DNA research, including the genetic interactions between extinct ancient humans and early modern humans and how modern humans evolved in different stages of time. He then introduced his team's current research priorities, systematically reviewed the progress of ancient human genomics research in the past decade or so, and pointed out the importance of ancient DNA research on human evolution, while emphasizing the importance of the development of ancient DNA experimental technology, the exploration of future technological development and prospects. At the end of the lecture, Ms. Fu pointed out that ancient DNA research is an interdisciplinary study among archaeology, genetics, bioinformatics, and anthropology, and that more interdisciplinary research will be carried out in the future.

The presentation was very insightful and informative, showing the students and teachers at the conference the cutting edge of ancient DNA research into human evolution in East Asia. After the meeting, researcher Fu Qiaomei had a lively discussion with students and teachers. The exchange further strengthened the cooperation between the Institute of Archaeology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lanzhou University in the field of environmental archaeology.
