Professor Shi Guitao is a doctoral advisor at the School of Geographical Sciences, East China Normal University. His research focuses on modern environmental processes of Antarctic snow and ice and ice core-based climate reconstructions. He has organized and participated in four Antarctic scientific expeditions and served as Deputy Director of China’s Kunlun Station in Antarctica, leading the team that drilled China's first deep ice core in the inland Antarctic region.Professor Shi has made significant contributions to the understanding of polar climate change mechanisms, including the dynamics of snow and ice processes and the interpretation of climate signals in ice cores. He has led or completed more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program. He has authored over 100 academic publications and books in top journals such asNature GeoscienceandNature Communications.He received the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars in 2019, was selected as a Leading Academic Talent of Shanghai in 2020, and won the Young Scientific Innovation Award of the Shanghai Marine Science and Technology Award in 2021. He currently serves as China’s national representative to the International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences (IPICS), Deputy Director of the Marine Geography Committee of the Geographical Society of China, member of the Chinese National Committee of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences, and member of the Polar Quaternary Committee of the Quaternary Research Association of China.
