Reporter Profile:

Xu He, Vice Dean of the Institute of Ecological Civilization, Nankai University, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, and Adjunct Master's Supervisor at the School of Statistics and Data Science. He serves as the Lead Principal Investigator for Major Programs under the National Social Science Fund of China and has been recognized as a New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education (2010) and a Tianjin "131" Innovative Talent. He is a member of the Overall Expert Group for the Key Special Project "Solid Waste Resourceization" under the National Key R&D Program during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period. Additionally, he served as a Review Expert for the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2010 to 2015. He holds concurrent positions as a Researcher at the Supreme People's Court's Environmental Damage Judicial Appraisal Research Base and as a Visiting Professor at Kitakyushu University, Japan. His extensive professional roles include Vice Chair of the Environmental Impact Assessment Committee and the Environmental Economics Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Vice Chair of the Environmental Geoscience Branch, Vice Chair of the Environmental Management Committee of the China Management Science Society, Vice Chair of the Higher Education Society's Ecological Civilization Education Research Branch, and Vice Chair of the Expert Committee of the Circular Economy Branch of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.

Professor Xu He has been engaged in interdisciplinary research spanning the fields of ecological civilization, circular economy, and environmental economic policy for many years. As the Chief Scientist, he has led one major special project and one key project under the National Social Science Fund of China. Additionally, as Principal Investigator, he has directed three major National Social Science Foundation projects and three National Key R&D Program Projects. Furthermore, Professor Xu played a pivotal role in establishing the Institute of Ecological Civilization—an interdisciplinary research institute—where he serves as Vice Dean. He also founded the China University Alliance for Ecological Civilization Education and serves as its secretary. He is the Editor-in-Chief of EIA Review, an international journal indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI Q1). He has published 10 academic books in Chinese and one English monograph, along with over 100 papers in renowned domestic and international journals such as Environmental Science and Technology, Journal of Cleaner Production, and EIA Review.
