Jia Jinsheng is the Chief Scientist of the National Research Center for Sustainable Hydropower Development at the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR). He currently serves as the Vice President of the Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), Honorary President of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), Chairman of the ICOLD Technical Committee on Cemented Material Dams, and Director of the CHINCOLD Technical Committee on Cemented Material Dams. He has previously held positions such as Vice President of IWHR and Deputy Director of a State Key Laboratory. He has long been engaged in the structural optimization and safety research of reservoir dams, undertaking scientific and technological challenges for world-class dams both domestically and internationally, including the Three Gorges Dam, the heightening of the Danjiangkou Dam for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, Xiaowan, Shuibuya, and the Bakun Dam in Malaysia. He has achieved innovative results in dam structural performance optimization and new types of cemented dams, which have been successfully applied in over 200 projects at home and abroad. He has received 5 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (including one first prize and four second prizes), one ICOLD Innovation Award, and Dam Promotion Awards from Brazil and India. He has also won 12 provincial and ministerial-level special and first prizes for scientific and technological progress. He holds 66 invention patents, has co-authored 13 domestic and international technical standards, published 16 monographs and edited volumes, and authored 180 papers. He is a recipient of the National Award for Excellence in Innovation, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize, the Guanghua Prize, and the Outstanding Engineer Award. He was also selected for the National "New Century Bai-Qian-Wan Talents Project".
