At the invitation of Prof. Nian Yanyun from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Researcher Ran Youhua from the Northwest Institute of Eco-environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, will visit our university for academic exchange and deliver a lecture on December 2, 2025. Reporter Profile:

Ran Youhua, Ph.D., Researcher, and Doctoral Supervisor, is a specially appointed key researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His work focuses primarily on permafrost geography and related fields. He has led more than ten projects, including the Young Scientists Fund Program (Category A) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and sub-projects of the CAS Class-A Strategic Priority Program.

In recent years, he has made innovative contributions in several areas, including permafrost data integration, distribution mapping and engineering-economic damage assessment, and the validation of remote sensing products for key eco-hydrological parameters in cold and arid regions. He has published 116 papers, including first- or corresponding-author articles in top journals such as Earth System Science DataEarth Science Reviews, and The Cryosphere, as well as co-authored papers in leading multidisciplinary journals such as Nature Geoscience, with over 6,500 citations.

He has contributed to two national standards, and his scientific data products have been downloaded more than 30,000 times. He serves as an editor or early-career editor for journals such as Science BulletinRemote Sensing Technology and Application, and Journal of Glaciology and Geocryology. He is also a committee member of the Digital Mountain and Digital Polar Special Committees of the International Society for Digital Earth (China), as well as the Geographical Modeling and GIS Analysis, and Cartography and GIS Committees of the Geographical Society of China. He received the 2025 ISC-WDS Data Stewardship Award.
