At the invitation of Prof. Yang Xiaoyan, Director of the Key Scientific Research Base for Bioarchaeology in Cold and Arid Regions, National Cultural Heritage Administration, from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Postdoctoral Xiao Bo from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) visited our university for academic exchange and delivered a lecture on January 19, 2026.
Title: Unraveling Species Divergence and Fossil Taxonomy of Endangered East Asian Antelopes through Paleo-Modern Genomics
Reporter: Dr. Xiao Bo
Time: 15:00-16:30, January 19, 2026 (Monday)
Venue: Meeting Room 501, Qilian Hall, Chengguan Campus, Lanzhou University
Moderator: Prof. Yang Xiaoyan

Reporter Profile:
Xiao Bo earned his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), where he is currently conducting postdoctoral research. His work focuses on ancient DNA and molecular evolutionary biology. He has published three first-author academic papers. His research utilizes paleo-modern DNA data, integrated with methods from population genetics, phylogenetics, and divergence time estimation, to investigate the evolutionary history and population dynamics of large mammals (such as the giant deer, red deer, moose, and Mongolian gazelle) since the Late Quaternary. This lecture presented how paleo-modern genomic evidence is employed to clarify the species divergence relationships of endangered East Asian antelopes and propose a new molecular evidence framework for the taxonomic classification of key fossil materials.
