On December 28, 2024, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences successfully hosted the annual Professional Internship Exchange Event and the selection of the “Outstanding Internship Teaching Teams” at Guanyun Building, Room 1615. This event not only summarized the achievements of the college in internship teaching over the past year but also recognized and motivated outstanding internship teaching teams. Moreover, it provided a platform for exchanging internship experiences and sharing insights, highlighting the college's strong commitment to practical teaching. The event invited distinguished judges, including Vice Director Sun Xicheng from the Academic Affairs Office, Professor Ma Shan, Associate Dean of Teaching at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Associate Professor Ren Guiping, Associate Dean of Teaching at the School of Geosciences and Mineral Resources, Director Liu Haisheng of the Gansu Provincial Hydrological and Engineering Geological Survey Institute, and Professor Guan Qingyu, Vice Dean of Teaching at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences. All internship instructors for the 2024 academic year also attended the event.

In the opening remarks, Vice Dean Guan Qingyu emphasized that professional practice teaching is a critical component in cultivating students' practical abilities and innovative spirit. It is also an essential guarantee for the quality of talent development at the college. He expressed hope that the event would further inspire the enthusiasm of professional internship teaching teams, encourage the continuous summary of practical teaching experiences, promote reform and innovation in the undergraduate practical teaching system, and improve the quality and effectiveness of undergraduate internship education.

Vice Director Sun Xicheng expressed that for many years, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has closely relied on the field science observation stations and joint internship and practice teaching bases with enterprises and institutions. The school has carried out a series of professional internship activities with distinctive features of the western region of China. The college’s practical teaching activities have also served as exemplary teaching cases for the university’s preparation for the new round of Ministry of Education’s educational and teaching reviews. He hoped that through the exchange event, the best practices of the college in professional internships would be deeply understood, and the direction of future reforms and developments in practical teaching would be explored to continuously enhance the quality of undergraduate education.

In the selection event, 16 teams participated in the defense. They presented their internship programs, focusing on aspects such as internship content, innovation, and teaching effectiveness. The judges exchanged opinions with each team and evaluated their internship features and highlights from various angles, including the rationality of internship routes, controllability of internship budgets, teaching methods, industry-academic cooperation in talent development, and the construction of practical teaching resource libraries.

This event aimed to provide a platform for undergraduate professional internship teams to showcase themselves and exchange learning experiences. It is also an important initiative for the college to implement the guiding principle of "evaluation-driven construction, reform, management, and strengthening," ensuring the smooth implementation of the 2023 version of the professional talent development plan. The successful organization of this event has provided fresh ideas for further improving the management of undergraduate professional internships, enhancing internship course development, and refining practical teaching outcomes. It has also provided clear direction for the college’s comprehensive and deepened reforms in undergraduate education, promoting high-quality and connotative development of undergraduate education.
In the future, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences will continue to adhere to the principles of "promoting student development, highlighting professional characteristics, expanding resource space, strengthening practical teaching, and fostering interdisciplinary integration." The college will explore and innovate internship teaching models, continuously improving the quality and effectiveness of practical teaching. Additionally, the college will further strengthen cooperation and communication with enterprises and institutions to promote the continuous improvement and development of the industry-academia-research collaborative talent development mechanism.
