Students from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences Honored with the 17th Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Scholarship

On May 29, 2026, the 17th Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Scholarship Award Ceremony and the 3rd "Pan Jiazheng Cup" College Student Speech Contest, hosted by the China Society for Hydropower Engineering and the Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Science and Technology Fund Management Committee and organized by Tsinghua University, were successfully held at Tsinghua University. A total of 78 students from 30 universities and research institutions across the country received the scholarship. Three students from our college—master's student Xiong Tao and undergraduate students Niu Nana and Wang Haojun—won the award by virtue of their outstanding academic performance and solid professional competence. Niu Nana attended the award ceremony as a representative of the scholarship recipients.

The award ceremony was presided over by Zong Dunfeng, Chairman of the Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Science and Technology Fund Management Committee. Among the more than 150 attendees were Xi Hao, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the China Society for Hydropower Engineering; Wang Rui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University; as well as leaders and guests from over 50 organizations, including those involved in hydropower planning and design, construction, operation and management, equipment manufacturing, universities, and research institutions, along with representatives of the award-winning teachers and students.

The Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Science and Technology Fund is a non-profit special fund named after Mr. Pan Jiazheng, a renowned expert in hydropower and water conservancy, and an academician of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It was jointly initiated by the China Society for Hydropower Engineering and the China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Corporation, and established with donations from 42 enterprises and institutions within the national hydropower and water conservancy system. Its core mission is to support scientific and technological innovation in hydropower and to nurture high-quality young talent for the industry. The Pan Jiazheng Hydropower Scholarship focuses on outstanding young students in the field of water conservancy and hydropower, vigorously promotes Mr. Pan Jiazheng's noble spirit of "loyalty and dedication, truth-seeking and innovation", and specifically rewards undergraduate and graduate students who love their country's water conservancy and hydropower endeavors, demonstrate excellent academic performance and moral character, and dare to explore and innovate. Since its establishment, the fund has rewarded more than a thousand outstanding students, establishing itself as a highly authoritative and influential platform for cultivating young talent in China's hydropower sector.
