Reporter Profile:
Liu Shiyin is a researcher and doctoral advisor at the Institute of International Rivers and Eco-Security, Yunnan University. His research focuses on glacier resources, glacial hazards, cryospheric remote sensing, and snow and ice hydrology. He has led and completed a number of major national and institutional research projects, including those under the Ministry of Science and Technology (basic work, science and technology support, international cooperation), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (key projects including international cooperation, and general programs).He led the second glacier inventory of China and the revision of the first, conducted key glacier mass change assessments, and carried out research on the sensitivity and dynamic response of High Asian glaciers to climate change, as well as the monitoring and simulation of glacial lake outburst floods.He has received numerous awards, including two Second Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the First Prize of Gansu Provincial Natural Science Award, the State Council Special Government Allowance, the “Outstanding Contribution Award for the Implementation of the 11th Five-Year Plan,” and the ScienceDB Scientific Data Individual Achievement Award. He has also served in several academic roles such as council member of the International Glaciological Society and member of the Glacier Inventory Working Group of the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences.
