Reporter: Researcher Wu Guangjian, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS

Title: Impacts of Rapid Glacial Changes on Hydrological Resources on the Tibetan Plateau

Moderator: Prof. Cao Bo, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University

Time: 11:00-12:00, August 9, 2025 (Saturday)

Venue: Meeting Room 502, Qilian Hall, Chengguan Campus, Lanzhou University

Reporter Profile:

Wu Guangjian, Researcher at the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, Doctoral Supervisor, and recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He currently serves as the Director of the Southeast Tibet Station of CAS.

With a long-term focus on ice core climate records and glacier-environment interactions on the Tibetan Plateau, his research has elucidated the physicochemical characteristics and spatial variability of high-altitude snow and ice dust. His work has yielded key parameters for understanding the climatic and environmental effects of dust, revealed the sources, transport mechanisms, evolution history, and driving factors of dust over the Tibetan Plateau, and significantly advanced the understanding of Asian dust and its environmental impacts.

Currently, as the Executive Lead for the glacier investigation task in the Second Tibetan Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research program, he is conducting scientific research on rapid glacial changes, their environmental effects, and strategies for mitigating glacial hazards. He has presided over several key projects, including the NSFC Joint Key Fund, International Key Collaboration Project, sub-projects of the CAS Strategic Priority Research Program, and National Key R&D Program Projects. He has been awarded the "Tibetan Plateau Youth Science and Technology Award" and was recognized as one of the "Touching Figures" of CAS in 2022.
