Reporter Profile:
Xu Qinghai is a professor (Second-tier) and doctoral supervisor at the School of Geographical Sciences, Hebei Normal University. He has served as the Deputy Director of the Environmental Change Committee of the Geographical Society of China, Deputy Director of the Holocene Branch of the Geographical Society of China, a council member of the Palynological Society of China, a council member of the Chinese Quaternary Research Association, and a member of the European POLLANDCAL program. He is recognized as an expert with outstanding contributions in Hebei Province and a provincially-managed outstanding expert.
He has long been engaged in research on environmental evolution and global change, modern pollen processes, and Quaternary Palynology. He was the first to reveal the characteristics and burial processes of pollen assemblages in different sedimentary facies in North China. He systematically studied the surface pollen assemblages and depositional fluxes in different vegetation zones of Northern China, pioneered research on the pollen assemblage characteristics of artificial and artificially disturbed vegetation in China, and has led the way in pollen productivity estimation and land cover change reconstruction in East Asia. In 2002, he was recommended by the Palynological Society of China as an academic leader for the China Association for Science and Technology. He has successively presided over one major basic research preliminary project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, two key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, six general projects, and multiple international cooperation and provincial-level projects.
