Reporter Profile:

Shinya Shoda is a molecular bioarchaeologist currently serving as Head of the International Cooperation Section at the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, while also holding an honorary visiting researcher position at the BioArCh (Biomolecular Archaeology Research Centre), University of York, UK. His research focuses on the application of advanced chemical and molecular methods to archaeological materials, particularly lipid residues preserved in prehistoric pottery, cooking vessels, and dental calculus. Through these biomolecular traces, he reconstructs ancient dietary practices, cooking traditions, and the spread of agriculture across Eurasia and beyond.
