Reporter Profile:
Liu Xinyi is Professor of Archaeology at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, and serves as Associate Chair of the Department of Anthropology. He also holds joint appointments as Professor in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Professor at the School of Public Health at Washington University. He received his Ph.D. in Archaeology from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2010. Prior to moving to the United States, he conducted postdoctoral research at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research in Cambridge and was elected a Research Fellow of Darwin College, Cambridge. He has been a faculty member at Washington University in St. Louis since 2014. His research interests include the processes of prehistoric globalization, animal and plant domestication and dispersal, and the relationship between ancient China and the wider world. He has published over 100 papers, including highly cited English academic articles as well as contributions to public-facing academic platforms such as Shanghai Book Review and Historians. He is currently a permanent member of the International Work Group for Plant Archaeologists (IWGP), an Associate Editor of Archaeological Research in Asia, and a Guest Editor for journals including PNAS. In 2015, he received the Research Achievement Award from the Shanghai Archaeology Forum.
