Reporter Profile:

Wang Chao is an Associate Researcher at the School of Earth Sciences, Zhejiang University, and a member of the Specialized Committee on Social Computing and Intelligent Simulation. She has long been engaged in research on spatiotemporal big data mining, complex system modeling, and social geographic computing. She has published more than 30 papers in journals such as CitiesIEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Transactions in GIS, and holds more than 40 authorized national invention patents and software copyrights. She has led projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China Young Scientists Fund and the Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation General Program, and has participated as a key researcher in multiple national and provincial-level research projects, including the NSFC Regional Joint Fund and the National Key R&D Program of China. She is a recipient of the First Prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.

Report Abstract:

With the development of spatiotemporal big data and artificial intelligence technologies, discovering the patterns underlying complex geographic processes from multisource spatiotemporal data and further enabling system simulation and scenario projection for future conditions have become important research directions in Geographic Information Science. This presentation will focus on the evolution of spatiotemporal big data analytics from pattern mining to intelligent simulation and projection. It will introduce analytical methods that account for spatiotemporal associations, dynamic evolution, and spatial heterogeneity; explore AI-driven simulation techniques for complex human–environment systems; and demonstrate their applications in urban activities, resource utilization, and the assessment of impacts under extreme environmental conditions.
