Reporter Profile:

Zeng Zhenzhong is a Distinguished Professor appointed under the Ministry of Education's "Changjiang Scholar Award Program" and a Professor at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering and the School of Artificial Intelligence, Southern University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on Earth system science, land–atmosphere interactions, climate change, and extreme events. He has published numerous research papers in high-impact journals including ScienceNature series sub-journals, One Earth, and Science Bulletin. In recent years, his work has primarily concentrated on the abrupt changes in global warming since 2023 and their Earth system responses, with particular emphasis on anomalous ocean warming and marine heatwaves, land warming, air–sea interactions, and the key driving mechanisms behind these phenomena. He also explores the new challenges facing Earth system prediction under rapidly changing climate conditions. His research integrates observational data, dynamical climate models, and artificial intelligence/machine learning methods to conduct diagnostic studies of climate change mechanisms, extreme event attribution, and climate prediction. He previously conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University, with work covering marine heatwaves, terrestrial evapotranspiration, ecosystem–climate feedbacks, and seasonal-scale climate prediction.
