At the invitation of Prof. Huang Xiaozhong from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Dr. Lucas Dugerdil from the University of Montpellier, France, visited our university for academic exchange and delivered a lecture on September 4, 2026.

Reporter Profile:

Dr. Lucas Dugerdil mainly uses proxies such as glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) and pollen and spores to study climate, vegetation, and human activities during the Holocene. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Montpellier, France, in 2025. During his graduate studies, he conducted collaborative research internships in Mongolia, at the University of Siena in Italy, the University of Tehran in Iran, and at Lanzhou University and Sun Yat-sen University in China. His doctoral research (2023–2025) integrated different approaches to better understand the evolution of climate and vegetation in Central Asia during the Holocene. His research included the calibration of different proxies, the analysis of new lake sediment sequences, and regional climate synthesis. Lucas has published 21 papers in journals such as Global Ecology and Biogeography (GEB), Global and Planetary Change (GPC), and Catena, including 7 first-author papers.
