At the invitation of Professors Xie Yaowen and Nian Yanyun from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Professor Zhu Jun, Vice Dean of the School of Geomatics at Southwest Jiaotong University and a recipient of national-level high-caliber talent recognition, visited our university on November 24, 2024. During his visit, he delivered an academic lecture titled"Enhanced Visualization of Digital Twin Scenarios for Geographical Environments"as part of the "Yuxiu Resource and Environment·Celebrity Forum of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences" in Conference Room 502, Qilian Hall. The lecture was chaired by Professor Xie Yaowen.
In his lecture, Professor Zhu provided a comprehensive overview of the significance of digital simulation technologies in geographical environment research and explained how these technologies enhance the efficiency of environmental planning and management. He began by introducing the basic concepts of virtual environments and proceeded to discuss the construction and dynamic simulation of virtual geographical environments. He emphasized the critical role of technology in promoting environmental sustainability. Over the course of two hours, Professor Zhu shared numerous case studies and demonstration data to illustrate advancements achieved through virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies. He highlighted the capability of digital twin technologies to enhance the analysis of complex environmental issues and provide scientific support for policy-making.
After the lecture, Professor Zhu engaged in lively discussions with faculty and students, addressing questions about digital simulation and its applications. Participants expressed that the lecture offered valuable insights and new perspectives for their academic research and future career development. In addition to the lecture, Professor Zhu toured the laboratories of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and discussed potential collaborative projects and future research directions with the school’s research teams.
