Professor Peng Jian from Peking University Visits Our University and Delivers an Exchange Report Titled “Reunderstanding Landscape Ecology”

At the invitation of Professor Gong Jie and Associate Professor Ma Zhenbang from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Key Laboratory of Western China's Environmental Systems, Ministry of Education, Professor Peng Jian from Peking University visited our university on April 7, 2025, and was a guest at the “Yuxiu Resource and Environment·Celebrity Forum”, where he delivered an academic exchange report titled “Reunderstanding Landscape Ecology.” The session was hosted by Professor Gong Jie.

In the report, Professor Peng Jian systematically elaborated on the core themes of landscape ecology. First, from the perspective of disciplinary history, he comprehensively reviewed the developmental trajectory of landscape ecology since the 20th century, deeply analyzing its unique status and academic value as an interdisciplinary field. Second, he provided a detailed introduction to the core concepts and research methods of landscape ecology, the transformation of disciplinary paradigms, and the updates in analytical approaches. Finally, the report particularly emphasized three key characteristics of landscape ecology: process characterization, scale effects, and temporal dynamics.

Professor Peng had enthusiastic discussions with the attending faculty and students, answering questions regarding landscape ecology theory, methodological applications, and future development. Attendees all expressed that the report offered both theoretical depth and practical value, not only enriching their understanding of landscape ecology but also providing new insights and inspiration for research in related fields.
