At the invitation of Researcher Li Xin from the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Nian Yanyun from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, Professor Chen Min from Nanjing Normal University visited our university for academic exchange and delivered a lecture on July 29, 2025.

Reporter Profile:

Chen Min, a professor at Nanjing Normal University, is the Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Virtual Geographic Environment, Ministry of Education, China. He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and for Excellent Young Scholars. He has been selected for programs, including the National "Young Thousand Talents" (with key funding), Jiangsu Distinguished Professorship, young and middle-aged leading talent in the "333 High-Level Talent Training Project" of Jiangsu Province, leading figure of Jiangsu "Double Innovation Team", and "University Innovation Talent" program. He has led the development of the Open Geographic Modeling and Simulation System (OpenGMS), establishing an international voice for Chinese research teams. He holds several international positions, including President-elect of the International Association of Chinese Professionals in Geographic Information Sciences (CPGIS), Vice President of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (iEMSs), Chair of the Commission on Geographic Information Modeling of the International Geographical Union (IGU), Chair of the Young Scientist Innovation Network of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), and Chair of the Young Geographers Working Group of the Asian Geographical Association (AGA). He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Professional Committee of Geographic Modeling and Geo-information Analysis of the Geographical Society of China and Vice Chairman of the Professional Committee of Virtual Geographic Environment of the Chinese National Committee for ISDE. He is the first Chinese Fellow of the iEMSs and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize of the China Geomatics Science and Technology Progress Award, the First and Second Prizes of the Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education, the Tobler Young Researcher Award from the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Jiangsu Youth Science and Technology Award (and was named one of the Top Ten Young Science and Technology Stars of Jiangsu Province), the Youth Science and Technology Award of the Geographical Society of China, and the Science and Technology Progress Award for Natural Resources (Youth Science and Technology Award). His achievements were selected as one of the top ten research advances in Chinese geography in 2021. He serves as the Executive Editor-in-Chief of Annals of GIS and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Modelling & Software.
