Reporter Profile:

Liu Jianbao is a Boya Distinguished Professor at Peking University, professor and doctoral supervisor at the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, Peking University, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (2022) and the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars (2017), and Associate Editor of Science Advances (2026–2036). He received the Youth Science and Technology Award of the Geographical Society of China in 2017, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award in 2020 (as first contributor), and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Young Scientist Award in 2022.

He also serves as a member of the expert group for the National Key R&D Program "Earth System and Global Change", council member of the China Association for Quaternary Research, head of the Anthropocene and Lake Ecology Research Working Group of the Geographical Society of China, vice chair of the Climate Abrupt Change Committee of the China Association for Quaternary Research, and vice chair of the Climate Resources Committee of the China Society of Natural Resources. In addition, he serves as associate editor or editorial board member for journals including Science BulletinGlobal and Planetary ChangeJournal of PaleolimnologyEvolving EarthChinese Science BulletinJournal of Geographical Sciences, and Scientia Geographica Sinica.

His long-term research focuses on carbon cycling in lake wetlands and global change, as well as paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental evolution. He has published more than 100 SCI papers in journals such as Nature Climate ChangeScience AdvancesNature Communications, and PNAS. He has led projects including key components of the National Natural Science Foundation major program, thematic tasks of the Second Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Scientific Expedition and Research Program, and the Frontier Science Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
