At the invitation of Prof. Yang Yongchun from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Lanzhou University, and the Key Laboratory of Western China's Environmental Systems, Ministry of Education, China, Prof. Xu Wei from the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge, Canada, will visit our university for academic exchange and deliver a lecture on June 2, 2026. Reporter Profile:
Xu Wei is a tenured Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge, Canada. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Urban Geography from the Department of Geography, East China Normal University. He then pursued further studies at the University of Guelph, Canada, where he earned a Master's and a Ph.D. in Geography. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Guelph before joining the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge, where he has held positions including Department Head and various administrative roles at the college and university levels. In terms of academic service, he is Chair of the China Geography Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) and has received the group's Outstanding Service Award. He also serves on the editorial and review boards of dozens of academic journals. He has been appointed as Zijiang Visiting Professor at East China Normal University and selected as a Shanghai Eastern Scholar. He is the author of two monographs and has published over 100 academic papers and book chapters in both Chinese and English (including many in top-tier disciplinary journals). He has delivered more than 180 academic presentations and conference talks. He has led research projects funded by Canada's three major federal granting agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and other institutions, with cumulative research funding totaling several million Canadian dollars.
