Researcher Xiang Mingdeng Visits Our University for Academic Exchange and Delivers an Academic Report
Release time:2024-12-04 13:31:43

At the invitation of Professors Wang Shengli, Nan Zhongren, and Associate Professor Hu Yahu from the Northwest Soil and Groundwater Pollution Control and Remediation Technology Research Center, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University, Researcher Xiang Mingdeng, Deputy Director of the Environmental Health Center at the South China Institute of Environmental Sciences, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, visited our university for academic exchange. On November 18, 2024, he delivered an academic report titled "Bioavailability and Bioefficacy of Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) via Different Exposure Pathways and Its Health Risks" in Room 1009 of the Guanyun Building at Lanzhou University. The report was moderated by Professor Wang Shengli.

Researcher Xiang Mingdeng started by discussing the research background, bibliometric analysis of TBBPA literature, and scientific issues that require attention. He presented research findings and progress on topics including "bioavailability via oral intake," "bioefficacy via dermal and respiratory exposure," and "health risks to the Chinese population under typical exposure scenarios." He pointed out that the environmental pollution level of TBBPA and human intake in China are much higher than in other regions, and elaborated on the applications of bioavailability/bioefficacy in exposure risk assessments.

During the nearly one-hour report, Researcher Xiang maintained a high level of energy, using a wealth of charts, photos, and experimental process demonstrations to clearly explain the theory and methodology behind the research on the bioavailability and bioefficacy of TBBPA via different exposure pathways and its health risks. He combined typical TBBPA exposure scenarios to assess the health risks of TBBPA exposure in populations and highlighted the uncertainties in the evaluation results.

After the report, Researcher Xiang Mingdeng engaged in an interactive discussion with Professor Wang Shengli, Associate Professor Hu Yahu, and the graduate students present for nearly an hour. The attending faculty and students expressed that they greatly benefited from the lecture, which broadened their academic perspectives. Before and after the report, Researcher Xiang also visited several laboratories at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and had discussions with Mr. Gu Jiebing, Director of the Northwest Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Mr. Wang Chong, Deputy Director of the Lanzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, regarding further cooperation in the field of environmental health.
